Race Day: Jalisco Star @ Ffos Las

A battling effort on a blustery Wednesday evening in South Wales epitomised what an absolute superstar Dolly has been this season for both the team and her owners in the Laura Horsfall Racing Club.

Her form this season now reads 4511252 on a journey that has taken her band of followers to the winner's enclosure at Ascot and Ffos Las as well as grand days out at Warwick, Chepstow, Bangor and Carlisle.

This was Jalisco Star and Kevin Brogan at their best, the first one on and off the bridle on the second circuit but full of patience and staying ability over the 3m trip to overtake tired rivals coming home, just failing to catch the long-time leader Felicie Du Maquis but finishing well clear of the rest of the field in second.

The club love having Kevin as a jockey when he's available, plenty of good judges know how good he is at reading the pace of a race and he's a great voice in the paddock to keep everyone involved. It's important for Racing Clubs to feel part of a team and having Kevin on board makes for a great experience.

That was Dolly's 3rd win all told since she's been in the Racing Club, 12 runs, 3 wins, 3 seconds and 3 thirds, over 20k in prize money and amazingly, after staring off rated 92 she's going to be close to 112 when the handicapper reassess her this week, a 20lb rise is some effort from the team at Glebe Barn Stables.

Not sure any of us will forget that dusky night at Ascot in November where she got her head in front at 22/1 and ensured a lively evening for the Club on the way home (some of us may have got in the morning after!).

Our visit to Ffos Las was a timely reminder that Long Symphony (below) is set to return to the Racing Club colours next season. It's almost 2 years now since he won a maiden hurdle going away at the track and following up his Wetherby bumper win a couple of months prior, he's still rated 117 so in all probability we'll have two horses rated 110+ in the club next season. The club are always glad to see him at the yard and there's plenty of excitement about his eventual return to a racecourse.

Jalisco Star taking a well earned rest now (literally it seems!) but she'll still be the first stable the Racing Club stop off at when they visit the yard, that was a highly rated winner that beat us on Wednesday and we're all set for a campaign over fences when the work starts again.

We've learnt plenty over the years and The Laura Racing Club continues to grow to over 20 members, we've capped the spaces to 30 so we keep that small club experience that the large racing clubs just can't offer.

We spoke to so many people on our recent visit to Stratford who were there as part of Racing Club but who had to pay for their entrance and didn't secure a ballot spot to be in the parade ring with their horse.

We know that by keeping things scaled we can offer owner's passes for nearly everyone and get people closer to the action. No ballots for entry, lucky dips for stable visits or random monthly newsletters being the only place you can keep up to date.

" I can't believe how lucky I've been to see Dolly win on a raceday, the Club has a great group of members who enjoy a thriving social scene together, I've loved horse racing forever and there's no better place to be than feeling part of Laura's yard, the whole team is so welcoming"

We have a vibrant WhatsApp group and the kettle is always on should you want to pop to Glebe Barn Stables!

We're now open for more members, if you're not part of the Club already, we'd love to have you involved. Contact the team via the form below for more details or alternatively give us a nudge on any of our social channels.
